I believe that ART is a discourse. It is a supreme captivating force which charms me to engross in creative imagination. The thin and thick paint applications, light and dark lines, tonal variations and subtle hues intermingle on a surface that is my oeuvre. For me these embodiments are the results of a continual process of investigation of mark-making, seeking new dimensions. Dabbing in various media, the idea is more important to me than the technique albeit technique is considered vital to develop an idea. I use my drawing and painting skills to develop my ideas. I was trained initially by Colin David (a Pakistani maestro of figural painting) and Khalid Iqbal (a Pakistani maestro of landscape painting) in rigorous drawing skills; by Salima Hashmi at the National College of Arts Lahore who encouraged experimentations; and later by Grenville Davey – Turner Prize winner – in understanding art at the University of East London. Since 1994, I have been working as a professional visual artist. My subjects are common place – the happening in everyday life, from the pleasure that cultural objects yield to an effrontery of political systems. The thread which holds all these works of different phases together is the process, and I always keen to share with people the rhapsody of this process.
